Daily Photo • INDONESIA – JAVA

With a population of 136 million, it is the world’s most populous island, and one of the most densely populated regions in the world. It is home to 60% of Indonesia’s population. It contains beautiful countryside and filthy cities, tranquil rural scenes and streets congested with traffic. On this trip to Java I visited few cites and enjoyed some of well known tourist attractions. Here is some pictures from Java.

This is a country I grew up, country with a colorful history, once century’s ago an empire stretching from the Baltic to the Black Sea where raw pagan roots mixes with Catholic flavor.  Its natural treasures – forests, lakes and sand dunes found nowhere else makes it worth place to visit.

Remember reading somewhere about Cambodia and it was described as “Wild East”. After traveling through this country I tend to agree on this description. Major citys like Phnom Penh has wild feeling in them, you can buy anything off the street and the offering tactics they use sometimes becomes tiring indeed but the whole country and it’s people with a history both inspiring and depressing is a place where the future is waiting to be shaped. After month of stay in Cambodia I fell in love with this country even some parts of it left me a little bitter taste. Looking forward of coming back some day…

Laos is the least developed of the three former French Indochinese states. It is described as “country of 1000 smiles” and no doubt people are laid back and easy going. You need to get of tourist track to see something more interesting and this is easy to do if you can ride motorbike. There is many waterfalls, scenic mountains where you can find tribal villages and even though people in rural areas are camera shy you just need to spend some time hanging around, curious kids will come out and let you snap pictures of them.

Mix of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western cultures. Singapore have made his mark in the world of modern architecture with buildings like Esplanade Theaters on the Bay complex. 2009 Singapore added to it’s skyline Marina Bay Sands casino resort. 6 million sq. ft. resort, which is the most expensive casino resort in the world. Clean and well organized public transport will get you anywhere you want to go. Everything in Singapore is 30min away. It is more expensive than other Asian cities though.

Moved through Malaysia relatively quickly just visiting Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Singapore on my way. I am sure I will be back again since there is a lot more to Malaysia than those places. The first thing what I noticed once arrived to KL is diversity of people. Mix of so many cultures. Also KL has two iconic buildings – the Petronas Towers. At dawn people gathering in park to watch sunset and nicely lit skyscrapers surrounding that area.

Located in northern Taiwan, Taipei is the political, economic, financial, and cultural center of the island. It has thriving arts and academic scene and countless modern commercial buildings. Besides the friendly, welcoming nature of Taiwan’s inhabitants, the high level of development created by Taiwan’s economics make Taipei a cosmopolitan city that brings together the traditional and the new. Museums houses the world’s finest collection of art; beautiful temples are the setting for colorful folk festivals. Taipei offers bustling night markets, the 101 tower and streets lined with shops selling brand name products. All together I spend three months in Taiwan and every time I find something new to eat something new to see, something new to experience.

In this mythical land, still mostly unknown by outsiders, ancient cities surrounded by legendary history and rich, lush nature lays on display. It’s like you turn back time here, authentic Asian country where no ATM’s, 7-Eleven’s or McDonalds still exists and where holly men are more respected than movie stars. Even in major city’s random hours of electrical power, you will rarely see person with cell phone and that what makes it one of my favorite asian destinations. Collection of images you see is an outcome of 40 days traveling through an amazing country now called – Myanmar. Read more...
